son of a bitch, already

so, key bank sent me a fun new "pay pass" master-check-card several months ago. i activated it and starting using it, assuming that they would eventually cut off the old one.

this was appearently not true.

today, someone bought $400 worth of stuff at a Meijer in michigan using the OLD check card number, which i think i probably destroyed and threw out 4 or more months ago.

i don't recall any instructions arriving with my new card that instructed me about how to deactivate the old card.

why, why, oh why, would they allow two active cards in one person's name?

what's extra lovely about this is that in another month the old card would have expired of it's own volition anyway.

at any rate, not a 100% crisis, as I should get the money back no problem and the charge did not completely wipe out the account or anything. but still, not cool.
